TL;DR: After a bittersweet experience with the Razer Kishi on Android. Decided to give it a second chance, this time on iOS. It was very pleasant to play the games I wanted.

Why
#

I had tried the Android version before (see Razer Kishi for Android: Not quite there yet) and was a bit disappointed because I couldn’t play Genshin Impact, Pokemon Unite or Wild Rift with it. While this isn’t Razer’s fault, that was a deal breaker for me. Found myself in a situation where I was looking for compatible games and an excuse to play them, ending in my controller collecting dust on a corner.

I found a iOS Razer Kishi for under $40 so I decided to give it a second chance. I was already using an 8BitDo controller to play Genshin on my off time but it felt a little awkward to really sit down and set up the phone.

The Good
#

  • Genshin Impact compatibility completely tipped the scale for me. Having a game that I actually want to play using a controller, and being able to, really makes it worth it.

  • Cloud gaming still takes the cake for me. This time I’m playing Persona 5 Royal on Xbox Cloud Gaming and Goat Simulator and it just works so well.

  • It includes smaller pads to fit both regular and max iPhones better.

The Bad
#

  • You have to take your case off in order to use the controller. I’m always panicking on scratching my phone in the process.

  • Sometimes, my button presses do not register.

  • I still go out of my way to find compatible games I can use it in. Not gonna lie, I really wanted it to be compatible with Honkai Star Rail, but I won’t count it because their touch controllers are good enough. I still can’t justify buying it full price.

The Verdict
#

While the android version was not for me, this version actually pulled it’s weight. Genshin Impact is my go-to game while I’m out, so having this on my backpack really makes a difference. My verdict from my android post stays true, get it if your favorite games are compatible with it. It’s very comfortable to use and convenient. It’s also often on sale, specially now that the V2 version is out.
