TL;DR: ChargePoint announced through an email that you will be given the option to pay-as-you-go instead of forcing you to pay upfront sometime this summer.

On April 24th I received an email from ChargePoint Notifications stating that they would roll out the feature to pay only what you charge for instead of charging you the whole month upfront based on your average consumption.

Hi Alan,

ChargePoint drivers asked for a simpler approach to billing. We heard you, so we’re giving you the option to pay as you go instead of carrying a balance on your account. The pay-as-you-go model will be rolling out now through this summer. There will be no change to how you see your charging activity in the app.

Once this option is available in your account, change your preferences by opening the ChargePoint app and navigating to My Account > Payment. You’ll have the option to choose the pay-as-you-go model.

You can start using the new payment type on the first of the following month after you make the change. If you switch from auto-reload to pay-as-you-go, any balance you have on your account will be used before you start to pay your fee after each charge.

Remember, ChargePoint stations are independently owned, and individual station owners decide how much it costs to use their stations. Use the app to check pricing or filter for stations that are free to use.

Happy charging,

Team ChargePoint

For once, I’m very happy that they decided to change their payment model. I already complained in my sarcastic post (Removed) about their auto-reload model where they just charge your card when your balance drops below $5.
