TL;DR. It’s just a webcam, gets the job done. The LED Ring is good. Razer Synapse is a necessary evil.

Let’s start this review with my main gripe about Razer products. Razer Synapse. I like it when my products work right out of the box. But I had to spend quite some time setting this one up. However this is not all bad. The webcam itself is a nice device and the light ring works well when there’s low light.

My use case for this webcam is for work meetings and casual streaming. So It’s only used about once a month at best.

I find myself not using the light ring, even in low light, because my monitors tend to take care of that job already. It might be too strong and it washes out the color from the image. Fortunately, you can adjust the intensity of the light with a physical knob, which is the webcam’s body. There’s different levels of intensity and completely off. I usually go between off and the dimmest setting.

The Good.

  • It’s a good quality webcam!

  • After setting it up, it’s a breeze to use.

  • Can do 720p and 1080p with good quality. The 720p at 60fps works best for me.

The Bad.

  • The setup took longer than expected.

  • The clamp didn’t fit my intended monitor and it blocked a corner of my main screen.

  • There’s alternatives that probably do a better job, but it’s good if you get it on sale.

The Unnecessary.

Why is Razer Synapse a thing? I’m not a big fan of programs that lurk in the background of my PC, it’s just a no from me, and probably my biggest friction with this otherwise good product.

The Verdict.

It’s a good webcam. Nothing extraordinary, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent webcam. My perceived value of this product would be between $30usd and $50usd. It’s a good experience after you’re done setting it up.
